Georgian FM: US role in Baku-Yerevan peace process opens new opportunities

US involvement in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia is creating new opportunities in the South Caucasus, Georgia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili has said.

Speaking at the annual Concordia Summit, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Bochorishvili highlighted the South Caucasus’ growing geopolitical importance, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media.

During the panel discussion titled “South-Eastern Europe and the Black Sea as a Pillar of Stability,” she said developments in the region are becoming increasingly significant not only for the countries of the South Caucasus but also for the wider international community, creating new opportunities for Georgia.

“Georgia has always played an important role in ensuring peace in the region and the peaceful resolution of conflicts,” Bochorishvili said.

The Georgian foreign minister also stressed the importance of the country’s long-term partnership with the United States and NATO, while highlighting Georgia’s contribution to international missions.

Bochorishvili said Georgia continues to pursue membership of the European Union, adding that the development of new partnerships in response to changes in the geopolitical environment does not mean abandoning that goal.

She also said that maintaining security and stability provides a foundation for economic development and the expansion of international cooperation.
