Georgian MP urges EU envoy to respect host country
A senior Georgian parliamentarian has called on the European Union’s ambassador to respect the country of assignment, amid criticism over recent diplomatic remarks.
Levan Makhashvili, chair of the parliamentary committee on European integration, said no Georgian envoy would speak in a threatening manner about another country’s “dark past”, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
“Some ambassadors resort to political eclecticism, and unfortunately, it seems the EU ambassador has followed this trend,” Makhashvili said.
“The ambassador should respect the host country and do only what is permitted for a diplomat,” he added.
He further commented: “Even if the same statement is repeated a million times, a phone will not become a machine. We are not interested in this.”
