Georgian opposition intends to set up headquarters for ex-president’s release

03 February 2023 21:00

Head of the Georgian opposition party “United National Movement” Levan Khabeishvili has announced intention to create a headquarters for the release of Georgian and Ukrainian politician Mikheil Saakashvili.

The party wants to draw attention to Saakashvili’s detention, according to Social Bites.

The Verkhovna Rada (parliament) registered a new draft resolution on the appeal of the Ukrainian parliament in connection with the situation of Georgian ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is detained in his homeland.

The document calls for the politician’s immediate transfer abroad for medical treatment.

The initiative includes a call by the Verkhovna Rada to Georgia, the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the European Commission and PACE regarding Saakashvili. Moreover, Ukrainian lawmakers are also calling for addressing the parliaments of EU member states.

The draft of the appeal itself states that Saakashvili is a citizen of Ukraine.
