Georgian opposition leader says government selling our soldiers to Russia

09 August 2022 15:57

The leader of the National Movement, Nika Melia, has said that the Georgian government is selling our motherland and soldiers.

He said this while responding to the TV story aired on the Main Channel, according to which, the occupation regime allegedly has full access to the data on the Georgian soldier fighting in Ukraine, Mikheil Kamkhadze, according to Interpress News

"In the days of the August war, when we mourn and honour our heroes, whose self-sacrifice has brought us to this day and saved us from the domination by Russia, the Government wants a part of society not to honour the heroes, but to mourn the independence and statehood of the country to which these heroes sacrificed their lives. The Government is selling our motherland and our soldiers. This is no longer an allegation, this is a fact. We saw yesterday how the Government provides personal files of Georgian soldiers to Russia, against whom they fought here in 2008 and are now fighting in Ukraine”, Melia said while addressing a briefing.

According to him, this most serious fact shows that there are strong Russian influences in the Ministry of Defence of Georgia, through which any detailed information can be obtained by occupiers on every citizen of Georgia and their family members.

“This is not individual betrayal, this is systemic treason”, he said.

The Main Channel reported that the personal case of a Georgian officer was obtained by the Russian special services. According to the TV company, the occupation regime has full access to Mikheil Kamkhadze's data, which should have been kept in the Ministry of Defence.
