Georgian party criticises opposition protest on Independence Day
The opposition party Gakharia – For Georgia has criticised their colleagues for deciding to hold a protest on Independence Day, May 26, MP Giorgi Sharashidze said.
“On May 26, we don’t need anyone’s calls. Every year, on this day, people go out on the streets themselves to celebrate independence. It would probably be better to choose another date so that the Opposition Alliance’s contribution to organising the protest can be clearly measured, rather than creating confusion on May 26,” Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media
For context, the Georgian “Opposition Alliance” is trying to stir a wave of public protests. The alliance has announced a two-month “national mobilization” campaign, which will culminate in a mass protest on May 26 in Tbilisi, Georgia’s Independence Day.
