Georgian PM calls opposition protests “defunct”

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has described protests by the radical opposition as “defunct” and compared their participants to sectarians.

Speaking to First Channel of Georgia he said only several dozen people take to the streets each day, which, according to him, demonstrates the weakness of the organisers, Caliber.Az reports.

“The so-called protest of the radical agency has completely become defunct. This is reflected both in the numbers and in the substance. There is no protest by the radical opposition; they really take to the streets like sectarians — sometimes 50, sometimes 60, sometimes 70 people — and demonstrate their own weakness every day,” Kobakhidze outlined.

The prime minister added that such behaviour could only be regarded as sectarianism.

“When you see that you demonstrate your own weakness every day and still continue the so-called continuous protest, this means precisely sectarianism,” he stressed.
