Georgian PM links attack on ruling party founder to recent Fico, Trump incidents
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has stated that the assassination attempt on Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party, was orchestrated by the same forces that targeted Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and former US President Donald Trump.
“Two terrorist attacks have been recently carried out: one in Slovakia and the other in the US. This pattern indicates the involvement of similar global political forces,” Kobakhidze stated at a briefing, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.
He expressed concern over the planned attack in Georgia, noting that the investigation into the assassination attempt on Ivanishvili by Georgian special services underscores the presence of threats in the country.
The assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico occurred in May, while the attack on Donald Trump took place at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.
Bidzina Ivanishvili, a prominent Georgian businessman, established the Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party in May 2012. The party swiftly gained a majority in parliament the same year and has been Georgia's ruling party since. Ivanishvili served as prime minister from October 2012 to November 2013 before stepping back from politics. In 2023, he returned to the political scene as the honorary chairman of Georgian Dream.
