Georgian PM vows to maintain current utility rates despite global price increases

25 December 2025 20:50

Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has pledged to maintain the country's current utility rates, despite anticipated price hikes due to rising global energy costs.

Speaking to reporters, Kobakhidze expressed his hope that the government would be able to keep the rates stable. He mentioned that the final decision would depend on consultations by the National Commission for Energy and Water Supply Regulation, scheduled for December 29, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media

Kobakhidze acknowledged the challenges posed by international energy tariff increases but emphasised that the government would explore internal mechanisms to minimise the impact on consumers.

He clarified that utility tariffs in Georgia are influenced by global price trends, and while international rates have risen, the government is committed to doing its best to shield citizens from significant price increases for both gas and electricity.

This statement comes in the wake of an announcement by the head of the National Commission for Energy and Water Supply Regulation, who confirmed that utility tariffs in Georgia would rise starting in January next year, signaling an imminent shift in the country's energy pricing policy.
