Georgian president calls for global cooperation to unlock AI's potential UPDATED

06 July 2026 15:03

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has called for stronger international cooperation on the development and regulation of artificial intelligence, saying only joint efforts can unlock its full potential.

Speaking at the UN Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance, Kavelashvili said AI represents not only a technological breakthrough but also a major political and societal challenge requiring coordinated action by the international community, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

He stressed that the development of AI technologies must be based on respect for human dignity, fundamental rights and national sovereignty.

Kavelashvili added that the full potential of artificial intelligence in areas such as science, healthcare and education can only be realised through broad international cooperation.

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has departed for Geneva to take part in the United Nations Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance.

The forum, to be held on July 6–7, will bring world leaders to discuss international cooperation and the exchange of experience in the field of artificial intelligence, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

Kavelashvili is scheduled to meet with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

The AI Dialogue is the United Nations platform where all governments and stakeholders will convene to discuss international cooperation, share best practices and lessons learned, and facilitate open, transparent and inclusive discussions on artificial intelligence governance. For the first time, every country has a seat at the table of AI - to have the meaningful conversation the world needs.

According to the UN, as artificial intelligence is reshaping economies, societies, and daily life, its opportunities are real. So are its risks.

"No country can address either alone. The AI Dialogue exists to ensure that governance reflects the priorities of all nations, not just the most technologically advanced and that the benefits of AI are shared by all,” it says.
