Georgian parliament speaker calls for swift end to Ukraine conflict War could have been avoided

05 June 2026 15:08

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has said that Tbilisi supports the earliest possible end to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia and backs any initiatives aimed at establishing peace.

As Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media, the remarks came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy published a letter proposing that Russian President Vladimir Putin bring an end to the conflict. The Kremlin said it had reviewed the document, but noted that Putin had not yet examined it.

“I do not think this is a letter that should be assessed by us. From the very beginning, we have said that every opportunity must be used to achieve peace. This conflict could have been avoided, and this is confirmed by the US administration. Any initiatives aimed at ending the conflict are important, but they must take into account realistic and mutually acceptable conditions for the parties,” Papuashvili said.
