Georgian speaker: Foreign donors must play by the rules
Foreign donors will have to follow the rules, Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili wrote on Facebook.
He stressed that this week, the Georgian Parliament adopted amendments to the legislation regulating foreign political financing.
“Foreign donors have repeatedly ignored the government's recommendations regarding transparency and violated their commitments. Violations have consequences. It is up to the foreign donors to redress the situation. We strongly encourage constructive engagement in this process,” he said.
New amendments to Georgia’s “Law on Grants,” effective March 5, 2026, tightened the regulations for receiving foreign funding. Currently, 31 recipients of foreign grants from 44 donors are officially registered in the country.
