Georgian teen arrested for false bomb threat during Patriarch Ilia II’s funeral
A teenager in Georgia faces up to six years in prison after making a false bomb threat at Sameba Cathedral during the funeral of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II.
“On the afternoon of March 22, authorities received two anonymous calls reporting acts of terrorism. The caller claimed to be armed and alleged that he had planted explosives at the cathedral, threatening to detonate them if people were not evacuated within 20 minutes,” the State Security Service of Georgia said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
The minor was detained on the evening of March 22, with police confiscating mobile phones, laptops, and other materials linked to the incident. The suspect has admitted to the charges, the agency confirmed.
