German ambassador summoned to Georgian Foreign Ministry for first time in history
On September 24, 2025, German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer was summoned to the Georgian Foreign Ministry in what he described as an unprecedented diplomatic measure.
According to Caliber.Az, citing Georgian media, Fischer stated before entering the ministry that this was the first time in the history of modern relations between Germany and Georgia that an ambassador had been called in by the Foreign Ministry.
“I was summoned to the Georgian Foreign Ministry. The summons is a form of diplomatic sanction. To be honest, this is very unusual. This is the first time in the history of modern relations between the two countries that an ambassador has been summoned to the Foreign Ministry,” Fischer said.
He added that, during the meeting, he would listen to the Ministry’s concerns but also strongly contest what he described as unfounded and provocative statements made against Germany, himself, and other ambassadors.
“I will go and listen to what they have to say. But I also strongly refute the unfounded and provocative statements made against Germany, myself and other ambassadors,” Fischer stated.
In addition, the German envoy emphasised that he would use the opportunity to critique the current course of the Georgian government, which he said contradicts Georgia’s aspirations to join the European Union.
