German Chancellor welcomes Trump’s Gaza peace plan
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s plan to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip and called on the Palestinian movement Hamas to accept it.
This was announced by German government spokesperson Stefan Cornelius, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
"The German Chancellor welcomed the Gaza peace plan presented yesterday by President Trump. This plan represents the best chance to end the war that has been ongoing since October 7, 2023. Israel’s support for this plan is a significant step forward. Now Hamas must agree and clear the way for peace," Cornelius stated.
According to him, Merz expressed his gratitude to the US President, as well as to Arab and Muslim countries, for their efforts to resolve the Middle East conflict.
"The German government is in close contact with the United States, European neighbors, and partners in the region during these critical days. Germany is ready to play a concrete role in the implementation of this plan," the German government spokesperson said.
Cornelius also noted that on September 30, Chancellor Merz received relatives of German hostages being held by Hamas at the Federal Chancellery.
"He emphasized that the suffering of the hostages and their families must end immediately. He called on Hamas to release all hostages. They must be guaranteed humane treatment and immediate medical assistance," the government representative concluded.
