Kurdish forces intercept drone near Iraqi gas field

Iraqi Kurdish security forces opened fire on a drone late on November 24 to prevent it from approaching the Khurmor gas field, one of the largest in Iraq’s Kurdistan region, two security sources told Reuters.

Officials confirmed that the gas field sustained no damage during the incident. Air defences engaged the drone as it neared the facility, though it remains unclear whether the drone was successfully shot down.

Sirens were triggered across the site, prompting staff to move to designated safe zones as precautionary measures. The authorities are continuing to investigate the origin and intent of the drone.
