Karachi receives oil cargo after Iran eases Hormuz access
A Pakistani-flagged vessel carrying oil has arrived at the southern port city of Karachi after successfully transiting the Strait of Hormuz, while a second vessel reached the port via an alternative route, according to a spokesperson for the Karachi Port Trust, cited by US media.
Spokesperson Shariq Farooqi said additional Pakistani-flagged ships are expected to arrive later this month, delivering much-needed oil supplies from Gulf countries.
The shipments come days after Pakistan’s foreign minister announced that Iran had agreed to allow 20 additional Pakistani-flagged vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. He described the decision as a “constructive gesture” aimed at easing regional tensions.
Pakistan is also seeking to play a diplomatic role in reducing tensions between the United States and Iran, encouraging both sides to return to negotiations.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical routes for global oil shipments, making safe passage through the waterway vital for energy security.
