NATO chief calls on allies to expand defence capabilities
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has called on NATO allies to ramp up joint production of weapons and advanced technologies to ensure the “security of one billion people” across Europe and North America.
Speaking during a visit to ASELSAN, one of Türkiye's largest defence companies in Ankara, Rutte said member states are prepared to increase military spending, Caliber.Az reports citing Bloomberg.
At the same time, he warned that funding alone will not be sufficient and stressed the need to expand capabilities in air defence, drones, ammunition, radar systems, and space-based assets.
The NATO chief said the alliance is confronting threats “from the Arctic to the Mediterranean and from cyberspace to the seabed,” citing the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, China’s growing nuclear arsenal, and accusing Iran of “spreading terror and chaos.”
