Student bus crashes in Sweden, dozens injured
A bus carrying exchange students from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) overturned in Sweden, leaving 56 passengers needing medical attention.
The incident occurred on November 22 in the Västerbotten region near Vilhelmina for unknown reasons, Caliber.Az reports via Swedish media.
The bus had 57 passengers, most of whom were foreign exchange students, with Germans forming the largest group.
According to the regional authorities, most injured were discharged on November 23, while eight remain hospitalised with moderate to severe injuries.
Two victims were airlifted from the scene, and local officials said no lives are currently at risk.
Police have seized the bus, and passengers are expected to retrieve their belongings throughout the day.
Authorities are investigating the accident as a case of traffic negligence, though no criminal charges have been filed at this time.
The students were travelling on a trip to Finnish Lapland, and 34 returned to Trondheim on November 23.
The bus was chartered by Finnish company Saaga Travel, which arranges trips across northern Finland, Sweden, and Norway.
According to Universitetsavisa, the buses were subsequently rented out to the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) at the NTNU.
