German FM confirms incident between Russian ship, Bundeswehr helicopter
German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has stated that an incident involving gunfire in the Baltic Sea affected a Russian ship and a German military helicopter.
Journalists say that Baerbock briefly mentioned the incident in passing without providing further details during informal discussions at the NATO meeting in Brussels, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Baerbock noted that the Bundeswehr helicopter was conducting a reconnaissance flight when a Russian ship allegedly fired signal rockets at it. The minister suggested that the vessel in question might have been attempting to evade sanctions. She also called for increased patrols in the Baltic Sea to prevent similar incidents in the future.
On November 26, the information went viral that the G7 member states are planning to tighten sanctions against Russia. In a communiqué issued following the November meeting, the G7 member states stated their commitment to expanding the previously imposed sanctions and economic measures. Their aim is to further restrict Russia's income sources and limit the flow of goods and technologies that Moscow uses to fund and carry out its military operation in Ukraine.
On November 25, the UK announced sanctions against 30 Russian-linked maritime vessels, as well as AlfaStrakhovanie Group and VSK insurance companies. Earlier, the White House had also unveiled new sanctions targeting Russia.
