German president calls on Armenia to recognise Azerbaijan's territorial integrity
Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan has met his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin to address the situation in the South Caucasus and the Armenian-Azerbaijani normalisation.
"The German president, as well as Turkish leader Erdogan, noted the importance of Yerevan's recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, calling it a significant step for the normalisation of relations," Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Telegram channel Sputnik Armenia.
Meanwhile, the Armenian president said that Yerevan is ready to normalise relations with neighbours without preconditions, Interfax reports, citing the Armenian presidential press service.
"At a meeting in Berlin with the German president, the Armenian president stated that Yerevan is firm in its position to achieve stable and long-term peace in the South Caucasus region and is ready to establish good-neighborly and settled relations with its neighbors without preconditions," the report says.
To recap, against the background of Azerbaijani and international efforts to normalise ties with Armenia, the latter's armed forces escalated the situation on the border with Azerbaijan on June 15.
