Germany boosts A400M defence with $260 million Israeli missile shield Photo
Germany has signed a $260 million agreement with Israeli defence company Elbit Systems to install its J-MUSIC directed infrared countermeasures (DIRCM) system on the Luftwaffe’s Airbus A400M military transport aircraft.
The contract, announced on July 28, will see all systems delivered within six years, following a procurement decision by Germany’s Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Operations of the Bundeswehr, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
DIRCM technology provides protection against infrared-guided missiles, particularly those launched from the ground, by disrupting their tracking capabilities.
This deal follows a December 2024 order in which Elbit Systems Deutschland was contracted by Lufthansa Technik to fit the German government’s Airbus A350 aircraft with the same J-MUSIC system.
Elbit Systems said its DIRCM solutions are currently in operational use on a variety of military and commercial aircraft worldwide, with clients including defence agencies and air forces in Israel, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Brazil.
