Germany to deepen military cooperation with Philippines
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has announced that Germany plans to significantly deepen its military cooperation with the Philippines.
He indicated that the framework and objectives for this cooperation should be detailed in a politico-military agreement by the end of 2024, potentially by October, Caliber.Az reprots, citing foreign media.
"We want to cooperate more closely on arms. This could include, for example, cooperation in air defense, coastal defense, and possibly the procurement of transport aircraft," Pistorius stated following discussions with his Philippine counterpart, Gilberto Teodoro, in Manila. His remarks were reported by the DPA news agency.
Additionally, the minister emphasized plans to expand cooperation in military training before finalizing the broader agreement.
Pistorius also highlighted Germany's recent international military engagements. He announced that Germany became the 18th country to join the US-led United Nations Command in the Republic of Korea, a move he described as a "clear sign" of Berlin's commitment to peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region.
