The Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia has announced that the mayor of Gyumri and the city’s chief architect are facing bribery charges, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Criminal cases have been opened against the mayor and seven other individuals, and detention orders have been issued, the committee added.
Authorities also released a recording of a conversation, in which the mayor allegedly discusses the details of the “deal” with another person.
According to the committee, the mayor and chief architect agreed not to demolish an illegal building of about 1,500 square metres on Garegin Nzhde Street, in exchange for a bribe of around $10,000 from the owner.
