Harris gains support from Obama ahead of election
As the 2024 presidential election approaches its final month, former President Barack Obama is set to campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris next week.
This move comes as both Harris and her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, gear up for a series of crucial events in battleground states that will likely determine the outcome of the election, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
In a week marked by the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and contentious remarks from Trump and his wife, Melania, Harris is looking to gain momentum. Obama aims to reinvigorate the Harris campaign following what many perceive as a strong performance by Republican candidate JD Vance over Minnesota Governor Tim Walz in the recent vice-presidential debate.
Trump plans to return to Butler, Pennsylvania, this Saturday, where he survived an assassination attempt in July. He will be accompanied by Elon Musk, who publicly endorsed him for the first time shortly after the incident.
Obama's campaign efforts will kick off in Pennsylvania next Thursday, as he embarks on a whirlwind tour of Rust Belt and Sun Belt states. The goal is to cut through what has become a tight race, with polls indicating a virtual dead heat.
“President Obama believes the stakes of this election could not be more consequential, and that is why he is doing everything he can to help elect Vice President Harris, Governor Walz, and Democrats across the country,” stated Eric Schultz, a senior adviser to Obama.
Obama, regarded as one of the most influential figures in the Democratic Party, is expected to play a pivotal role in energizing the voter base. His appearance follows a highly praised speech at the Democratic National Convention in August, where he positioned Harris as a forward-thinking leader and the natural successor to his diverse political coalition aimed at mobilizing youth voters.
With the election just weeks away, both campaigns are intensifying their efforts to secure key states, as the outcome hangs in the balance.
