Hezbollah supporters protest Israel-Lebanon agreement in Beirut VIDEO
Supporters of Hezbollah took to the streets of Beirut on the night of June 26 to protest a newly announced framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon, blocking roads and burning tyres in several neighbourhoods of the Lebanese capital, according to Al Mayadeen television.
Lebanese security forces used tear gas to disperse demonstrators as unrest spread across parts of the city.
The protests came hours after Lebanon and Israel announced the framework agreement, which Lebanese President Joseph Aoun described as a first step toward restoring the country's sovereignty.
"The framework agreement signed today is the beginning of the path to making their sacrifices bear fruit, so that they may return to their fully liberated lands and to their homes, which will surely be rebuilt and filled with them and their national identity—free, dignified, with their heads held high, under the auspices of a sovereign Lebanese state, which has no rivals in its sovereignty over its land and its people. This is what we have sworn to uphold. And we swear to continue our work until this process is fully completed—so that there will be no more occupation, no more captives, no more dependence, and no more guardianship," Aoun said.
