Highway protest in Armenia results in 11 detentions
Eleven residents of the Armenian village of Kasakh were arrested on the morning of June 16 following a protest over local transportation issues.
According to the country’s Internal Ministry, the demonstrators had blocked the Ashtarak-Yerevan highway, disrupting traffic and demanding urgent action to address long-standing transport problems affecting the community, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
Police intervened and cleared the road, restoring traffic flow. All detained individuals were taken to a local police station and charged under Article 182 of Armenia’s Criminal Code, which pertains to failure to comply with the lawful demand of a government official. Authorities confirmed that one of the detainees is a minor.
