Hormuz transit slumps to two tankers after IRGC warning
04 March 2026 09:28
On March 2, only two tankers successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz, according to a CNN report citing data from the S&P Global Commodities at Sea tracking platform.
The figure marked a decline compared with March 1, when five vessels carrying oil and chemical products passed through the strategically vital shipping route.
The reduced traffic came amid threats issued on March 2 by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which warned that any tanker attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz would be “burned.”
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints for global energy supplies, and the sharp drop in tanker movements could lead to economic collapse.
