Houthis attack US aircraft carrier with drones, cruise missiles
Yemeni Houthis from the radical Islamist group, Ansar Allah, have launched missile and drone attacks on the American aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman.
"The target was the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman. The attack involved a large number of drones and cruise missiles," Caliber.Az reports, citing Arab media.
On December 28, the United States and the United Kingdom attacked Yemeni Houthi positions in response to their hypersonic ballistic missile strike on Israel's Nevatim Air Base in the Negev Desert.
Before that, on December 22, Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed to have launched attacks against the U.S. Navy's USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea. On December 22, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced that their forces had targeted the carrier and its accompanying destroyers with eight cruise missiles and 17 drones, resulting in the downing of a U.S. F-18 fighter jet.
The Houthis have intensified their attacks on maritime targets in the Red Sea since November 2023, often claiming to target vessels associated with Israel, the U.S., and the U.K. These actions have raised concerns about the safety of international shipping routes and have prompted increased military presence and operations by the U.S. and its allies to secure these vital waterways.
