Hundreds of thousands gather in Tehran to bid farewell to slain supreme leader
In the Iranian capital Tehran, a funeral prayer was held at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla Mosque for late Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in strikes carried out by the United States and Israel.
The prayer, held in a designated section of the mosque, was led by Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani, Caliber.Az reports, citing Anadolu Agency.
From early morning, hundreds of thousands of Iranians, carrying national flags, gathered at the site of the ceremony and took part in the prayer.
The ceremony was attended by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, representatives of the country’s military and political leadership, as well as religious figures.
A farewell ceremony is scheduled to take place in the capital tomorrow, July 6, after which Khamenei’s body will be transferred to the city of Qom.
