Hungarian lawmaker added to Ukrainian “Myrotvorets” database
György Balla, deputy head of Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party, has been added to the Ukrainian website Myrotvorets, which publishes personal information on individuals deemed threats to Ukraine’s national security.
The site accused Balla of “humanitarian aggression against Ukraine,” supporting Russia, and attempting to undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The move comes shortly after the Hungarian Parliament, on March 10, passed a resolution opposing financial support for Ukraine and its accession to the European Union. The resolution was approved by 142 MPs, with 28 voting against and four abstaining.
Tensions escalated earlier this month when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy threatened to share Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s address with Ukrainian armed forces if Hungary continued to block a decision to grant Ukraine a €90 billion EU loan.
The European Commission described the threats as “unthinkable.” Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó criticised Zelenskyy’s remarks, saying they reflect the “culture” of Ukraine, while Orbán himself stated that Hungary cannot be blackmailed or threatened.
Myrotvorets, established in 2014, publishes personal data of individuals the site’s creators consider traitors or security threats.
