Hungarian PM rejects EU budget as "war-driven plan" to defeat Russia
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has declared that his country will not support the European Union’s proposed new seven-year budget, criticising it as “built on the logic of war with Russia.”
Orban posted on his X page that the budget put forward by the European Commission does not serve the interests of European citizens, Caliber.Az reports.
He argued that:
“The Brusselian elite has unveiled a seven-year budget proposal built on the logic of war. Billions for Ukraine, crumbs for farmers and development. Their goal: defeat Russia, install liberal allies, and expand their realm of influence.”
He went on to make clear his stance:
“We reject their fantasies, we reject their proposal – Europeans deserve a Union that puts them first.”
Orbán suggested that this strategy aims to restore a liberal agenda within the EU and eventually rebuild commercial ties with Russia under a new government in the Kremlin.
He emphasised that Hungary has no interest in a war-oriented budget, stating that the country seeks a financial framework focused on peace and development, and therefore will not even consider supporting the current proposal.
