Hungarian PM envisions Marine Le Pen as next French president
While commenting on his country's relations with France, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced his prediction that Marine Le Pen from the far-right National Rally party will become the next president.
He gave those remarks during his visit to Paris during which he met with current President Emmanuel Macron, Caliber.Az reports citing French media.
Orban also held discussions with former French President Nicolas Sarkozy as well as the leader of the far-right party, Le Pen. Following those meetings, he issued several video messages on his official Facebook account in which he emphasized the importance of EU member states retaining their sovereignty and not being governed by Brussels.
He said "all three presidents — the former, the current and the future president" were in agreement that they did not want a "united states of Europe", referring to Le Pen whose party secured a major stake at the National Assembly during the 2024 elections. "France is France, everyone here is a patriot,” Orbán said.
“Hungary is Hungary, and practically everyone is a patriot, apart from the left-wing opposition. So there will always be an agreement that we do not want to make Brussels into a superstate or subordinate our independence and sovereignty to anyone, including Brussels," he elaborated.
