Hungary’s opposition Tisza gains ground, overtakes Orbán’s Fidesz Survey shows
Hungary’s opposition party Tisza has strengthened its position, surpassing Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz ahead of the elections, according to a new Median poll.
The opposition party leads Fidesz by 20 percentage points among decided voters and by 11 points among all eligible voters, Caliber.Az reports via Hungarian media.
Tisza received support from 55 percent of those who have made up their minds, while Fidesz garnered 35 percent.
Following the poll, Tisza leader Péter Magyar announced plans to intensify the party’s political campaign.
The survey was conducted from February 18 to 23, covering 1,000 respondents, with a margin of error of ±3.5 percentage points.
Hungary will hold parliamentary elections on April 12, 2026, where voters will choose the National Assembly’s 199 members through both individual constituencies and party lists.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz–KDNP coalition has dominated politics for over a decade, winning every election since 2010 and shaping laws and media to maintain influence.
The Tisza Party, led by Péter Magyar and formed from a consolidation of opposition forces, has surged in polls, positioning itself as the main challenger to Orbán’s long rule.
These elections carry significant EU and geopolitical implications, as Hungary’s position on Russia, Ukraine, EU relations, and internal democratic norms are central campaign issues.
