Hungary's PM: Ukraine's NATO bid to drag entire Europe into war with Russia
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has voiced strong opposition to Ukraine’s potential NATO membership, accusing Kyiv and Brussels of attempting to drag all European nations into the conflict with Russia.
Orban made the comments in a speech marking the 68th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian uprising, addressing citizens in Budapest’s Millenáris Park, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
"For the past 70 years, we have never been this close to a new world war," Orban said, emphasizing the severity of the current geopolitical situation.
He warned that European leaders and bureaucrats in Brussels have already entangled Europe in the war in Ukraine and now aim to involve the entire European Union in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
According to the Hungarian prime minister, Brussels’ ongoing military support for Ukraine and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposed "victory plan" indicate a dangerous escalation.
He argued that Zelensky’s strategy, which includes bringing Ukraine into NATO and pushing the front line into Russian territory, risks expanding the war’s scope.
Orban has consistently opposed NATO’s involvement in the conflict and expressed Hungary’s position of neutrality regarding Ukraine’s bid for NATO membership, further complicating EU unity on military support for Kyiv.
