IAEA chief says Iran, US close to framework nuclear deal
Iran and the United States are close to reaching a framework agreement on Tehran’s nuclear programme, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency said on Friday, June 5.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi made the remarks at a press conference following an extraordinary meeting of the agency’s Board of Governors, convened at the request of Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Saudi Arabia.
“From our point of view, they are quite close to an agreement on an issue that I would describe as relating to the nuclear field, since other issues are not within my competence, to a kind of framework agreement, let us say, a structure that would give them time to examine various problems, so I would say that it is quite possible that it will be reached,” Grossi said.
