In Poland, 500 gas wagons can explode due to sanctions
About 500 liquefied gas wagons could explode in Poland. The reason is the sanctions imposed on Novatek Green Energy, a subsidiary of Novatek, the company said.
According to Prime, a few days ago, Warsaw imposed its own sanctions on 50 Russian individuals and legal entities, including Gazprom, Novatek, Akron. This left several dozen communes (districts) of the country without liquefied gas, they were provided with raw materials by Novatek Green Energy.
“A significant and very real danger is associated with the deprivation of the company of control and the impossibility of further transportation and unloading of about 500 railway cars filled with liquefied gas that legally entered Polish territory,” the company says.
“Due to the physical and chemical properties of liquefied gas, in the event of a long idle time of cars on the tracks, an increase in external temperature and, at the same time, an increase in gas pressure in cars, can lead to the release of gas into the atmosphere, as well as its ignition, which will lead to powerful and difficult to extinguish fire," the statement said.
Novatek Green Energy believes that "immediate steps must be taken to ensure that the approximately 40 million liters of propane-butane gas accumulated in rail tank cars arrive immediately and safely at transshipment terminals."
“Obviously, due to the imposed sanctions, Novatek Green Energy cannot take any action in this regard,” the company concluded.
