Indian ambassador in Armenia visits Ijevan amid strike over wage increase
The Indian Ambassador to Armenia, Nilakshi Saha Sinha, has travelled to Ijevan amid a strike by Indian workers demanding a review of their employment contracts.
According to Caliber.Az, the director of the textile company Lje-Grand textile factory, Mher Mirzoyan, provided the update.
On August 7, the striking Indian labourers blocked a road in Ijevan as a form of protest.
Initial reports suggested that the workers were not being paid their wages. However, it later emerged that all 205 striking workers are officially employed, hold valid three-year contracts, and there are no outstanding salary arrears. Instead, they are demanding a pay increase, said Mirzoyan.
“The ambassador is currently here, and we are trying to reach a consensus,” Mirzoyan said, promising to provide further details later.
