Iran accuses Trump of using talks to buy time for military plans
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has denied engaging in any negotiations with the United States, asserting that US President Donald Trump is using purportedly “productive” contacts to buy time for military operations while presenting them as efforts to lower energy prices.
“Regional countries are proposing initiatives to reduce tensions, and our response to all of them is clear: we are not the party that started this war, and all such requests should be directed to Washington,” the ministry said, Mehr news agency reports.
Trump, speaking on March 20, said that following contacts with Iran over the past two days, he had instructed the Pentagon not to carry out strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure for the next five days. He added that further decisions would depend on the outcomes of “ongoing meetings and discussions.”
