Iran allows IAEA inspectors to oversee fuel swap at Bushehr Nuclear Plant
Iran has granted permission for two inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to visit the country to observe the replacement of nuclear fuel at the Bushehr nuclear power plant, which was built by Russian specialists.
Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation, told state news agency IRNA that the inspection took place following approval from the Secretariat of the Supreme National Security Council.
“Cooperation with the agency is a matter currently under discussion in line with the law [on the suspension of cooperation with the IAEA] passed by parliament,” Eslami said.
“The agency’s inspection of the Bushehr plant to monitor the fuel replacement process was carried out after receiving the necessary authorisation. The two inspectors arrived, supervised the process, and then departed.”
