Iran ambassador: Chabahar port project not halted, Tehran open to dialogue with US
Iran’s Ambassador to India Mohammad Fathali has said the Chabahar port project continues to develop and has not been suspended, despite sanctions and media reports suggesting otherwise.
In an interview with CNN-News18, Fathali dismissed claims of a possible halt to the project as speculation, Caliber.Az reports.
He said Iran remains open to dialogue with the United States, but added that no new concrete proposals have been put forward.
According to the diplomat, Tehran is seeking a “durable and lasting peace,” while maintaining its key positions: the right to a peaceful nuclear program under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the lifting of sanctions.
Commenting on reports of potential instability in the country, Fathali called them unrealistic and said Iran is prepared for a prolonged confrontation.
He also rejected rumours about the health of Iran’s Supreme Leader, saying Mojtaba Khamenei is in good health and describing such reports as “propaganda aimed at weakening public morale.”
