Iran announces closure of Strait of Hormuz over US maritime blockade

Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz starting on the evening of April 18 until what it describes as the full lifting of a US naval blockade, according to a statement by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGC Navy), as reported by Iranian media.

“In connection with the violation of the ceasefire agreement, as the adversary in the form of the United States has not lifted the naval blockade on Iranian vessels and ports, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed from today until the blockade is lifted,” the statement said.

The IRGC Navy added that Iran will consider any approach by vessels toward the Strait of Hormuz as “cooperation with the enemy.”
