10 August 2026 09:08
Iran’s Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has approved a bill that would prohibit U.S. and Israeli vessels from passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The proposed legislation, titled the “Strategic Measures to Ensure the Security and Sustainable Development of the Strait of Hormuz,” also seeks to ban vessels from other countries considered hostile to Iran from transiting the strategic waterway, Iranian media reports.
The bill would additionally prohibit ships from transporting military or civilian cargo linked to Israel through the strait.
Under the draft legislation, violations could result in fines of up to 20% of the value of the cargo being transported.
