Iran approves plan to charge ships for Hormuz passage
30 March 2026 22:33
Iran is moving to introduce transit fees for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz after a key parliamentary committee approved the proposal, according to Tasnim News Agency.
Citing a member of the Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, the report said the plan provides for the imposition of duties on ships transiting the strait.
Under the proposal, vessels linked to the United States, Israel, or countries that have previously imposed unilateral sanctions on Iran would be barred from passing through the waterway.
The plan also stipulates that any applicable transit fees must be paid in Iranian rials.
