Iran backs Armenia-Azerbaijan peace push, signals stronger ties with Yerevan
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed support for the ongoing peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, describing recent developments as a positive step toward enhancing regional security and promoting cooperation.
Speaking at a meeting with Armenian Defence Minister Suren Papikyan in Tehran, Pezeshkian underscored Iran’s willingness to expand and deepen comprehensive ties with neighboring countries, particularly Armenia. He also highlighted Tehran’s commitment to finalizing a document establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership with Yerevan, Mehr News Agency reports.
“Iran’s policy is focused on fostering peace, stability, and sustainable security in the region,” Pezeshkian said, cautioning that any destabilizing actions would negatively impact all regional states.
For his part, Papikyan highlighted the successful collaboration between Armenia and Iran in defence, economic, and transport sectors, emphasizing the strategic significance of Armenia’s partnership with its neighbor.
