Iran calls attack on Israel "legitimate and justified act of self-defence"
Iran called the attack on Israel "a legitimate and justified act of self-defence against Israeli aggression."
According to Report, this was stated in a letter sent by Tehran to UN Secretary General António Guterres and Security Council President Vanessa Fraser (on April 1, the presidency of the UN Security Council passed to Malta).
"As a responsible member of the United Nations, the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to the purposes and principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter and international law, and reaffirms its consistent position that it does not seek escalation or conflict in the region," reads the letter posted on the social media page of Iran's UN post office X.
Nevertheless, Iran warns that it will "defend its people and interests against any threats."
