Iran calls emergency UN Security Council meeting following Israeli strikes

Iran’s permanent mission to the United Nations has urgently requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council after a series of Israeli military attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities and senior officials.

In an official letter addressed to the president of the UN Security Council on June 13, Iran’s UN mission condemned the Israeli regime’s recent military aggression, describing the attacks as a “brazen act” carried out with the backing of the United States, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.

The letter called for decisive action by the Security Council in response to what it labelled “criminal and provocative” strikes on peaceful nuclear sites and senior military personnel.

Iran described the assaults as “reckless and illegal” operations that were premeditated and involved coordinated strikes on the country’s nuclear centres and civilian infrastructure.

The mission also accused Israel of violating the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international law, warning that the repercussions of the attacks threaten regional and global peace and security.

Among the killed named were the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri; the IRGC Commander Major General Hossein Salami; Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, as well as at least six Iranian nuclear scientists.

Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution, issued a stern warning to Israel following the attacks, stating: “With this crime, the Zionist regime has prepared for itself a bitter, painful fate, which it will definitely see.”
