Iran calls in German envoy after Berlin summons Iranian diplomat

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has summoned Hans‑Udo Muzel, Germany’s ambassador to Tehran, to formally convey Tehran’s protest over the publication of reports stemming from what it described as a “baseless accusation in a German court against the Islamic Republic.”

According to the ministry, the move was carried out by the director general of its Western Europe Department in response to what Iran called an unacceptable step by the German Foreign Ministry, which had earlier summoned the chargé d’affaires at the Iranian Embassy in Berlin.

During the meeting, the German envoy was told that Iran has historically served as a host and safe haven for followers of divine religions for centuries. An Iranian diplomat stated, “Unlike some countries that have a dark history of systematically persecuting and slaughtering Jews, Iran has a very bright background in promoting the principle of coexistence, because respect for the followers of divine religions has a valuable place in Islam and the Iranian culture.”

The director general of the Western Europe Department also warned Berlin against what he described as external manipulation, saying, “We advise Germany to be careful about the traps set by the destructive movements, instead of making accusations against others and fulfilling the Zionist regime’s demands to create fake tensions in order to make up for its recent failures.”

Ambassador Muzel responded that he would promptly relay the matter to authorities in Berlin.

The diplomatic step came after a mass demonstration by Iranians in Germany organized at the initiative of Iran’s Crown Prince, Reza Pahlavi.
