Iran, China show interest in copper smelter project in Armenia, official says
Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Asatur Vardanyan announced that Iran and China have expressed interest in joining the construction of a copper smelter in the country.
Speaking at the Mining Armenia Forum 2025, Vardanyan noted that while Armenia has developed a strategy for building the plant, the project has not yet been implemented, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
He explained that detailed economic calculations are required to assess the available resources, adding that such a facility is likely to be established once production volumes increase.
The deputy minister also highlighted key obstacles hindering foreign investment, citing the absence of access to Armenia’s stock market and the use of an outdated mineral reporting system.
