Iran claims attack on US oil tanker in Persian Gulf, vessel reportedly ablaze

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said its naval forces attacked a US oil tanker in the northern part of the Persian Gulf, claiming the vessel is now on fire.

The statement was published by the Iranian news outlet SNN.ir, citing the IRGC.

According to the IRGC, regulations governing passage through the Strait of Hormuz fall under the authority of the Islamic Republic of Iran during wartime and must be observed by all vessels navigating the strategic waterway.

The corps added that military and commercial ships from the United States, Israel, European countries and their allies are not permitted to pass through the strait. It warned that any vessels violating these rules would, “by the will of God, be struck.”
