Iran condemns US airstrikes on Yemen, vows "decisive response" to any attack on its territory

Iran has condemned recent US military strikes on Yemen, describing them as acts of aggression that have claimed numerous innocent lives, and warned that any attack on its territory would prompt a decisive response.

Speaking at a weekly press briefing on March 17, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei denounced the US airstrikes as a crime and a violation of Yemeni sovereignty, Caliber.Az reports per Iranian media.

When asked about American threats following the strikes, Baqaei stated that Iran would respond firmly to any assault on its territorial integrity and national security.

Rejecting allegations that Tehran is supporting Yemen, he accused the US and Israel of attributing the actions of the Yemeni resistance to Iran in an attempt to cover up their setbacks and suppress backing for the Palestinian cause.

“The Yemeni people and government make decisions independently,” he said, adding that Yemen’s actions in support of Palestinian resistance stem from its own strategic choices.

The spokesman urged the international community and Muslim nations to take immediate steps to halt the attacks on Yemen.

The airstrikes were ordered by US President Donald Trump on March 15 after Houthi forces threatened to resume attacks on Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea in response to Israel’s blockade of Gaza.

The US bombardment, which began on March 15 and continued into the early hours of March 16, targeted the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, as well as areas in Saada, Al Bayda, and Radaa. The attacks have killed dozens, including women and children.
